Oxide Thin Films for Advanced Energy and Information Applications

Materials Chemistry of Thin Film Oxides

13 Jul 2014 - 16 Jul 2014

Bloomingdale, Chicago, USA

Chairs

Stephen Skinner
Imperial College London
Bilge Yildiz
Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Synopsis

Key Sessions

  1. Nanoionics
  2. Batteries
  3. Ferroelectrics
  4. Thermoelectrics
  5. Fuel cells
  6. Nanoelectronics
  7. Multiferroics
  8. Solar and Fuel Cells
  9. Oxide Thin films

Oxide thin films are finding applications in a wide range of energy and information technologies, from ion conductors through photovoltaics and thermoelectrics to dielectrics, multiferroics and capacitors. Each of these technologies requires a thorough understanding of the materials chemistry of the oxide film and its interactions with the environment, substrate etc. Whilst in each technology area there may be materials differences, much of the materials chemistry optimisation may be common. For example, common families of oxides are employed, ABO3 perovskites in particular, and in this there are areas where discussion between user communities can prove mutually beneficial. It is the purpose of this meeting to foster an exchange of ideas between the relevant energy and information themes with the overall aim of provoking extensive discussion of the advances that materials chemistry can make in thin film applications.

We are delighted to be able to offer attendees of this conference the opportunity to submit their abstracts and papers for an online web collection with the Journal of Materials Chemistry A and C. The Journals of Materials Chemistry A and C are weekly journals in the materials field. The journals are interdisciplinary, publishing work of international significance on all aspects of materials chemistry related to energy and sustainability (Journal of Materials Chemistry A) and optical, magnetic and electronic devices (Journal of Materials Chemistry C). Both journals publish original research that demonstrates novelty and advance, either in the chemistry used to produce materials or in the properties/applications of the materials produced.

Oral Presenters

A Fusion Conference offers all participants the opportunity to present their current research and findings in a number of different ways. Once registered for the conference you will be able to submit your abstract online and monitor the status through your Fusion account. Please use the abstract template provided and ensure your abstract is no longer than one page in length. Any abstracts exceeding this size may be cut short during print.

Oral Presentations

We have a number of oral opportunities available at this meeting. To be considered for an oral presentation, please submit your abstract within the 'Talk Deadline'. Please check the conference programme carefully to note your presentation time (inclusive of Q&A) should you be accepted for an oral presentation.

We recommend you check our website regularly as the conference approaches as regular programme updates will be released under the ‘Programme’ tab on the conference page.

If you have prepared some slides to compliment your presentation please ensure you bring these with you on a USB or portable file saving device.

Those presenting on the first day, please email your slides to us so we can have everything prepared and ready for the first session. Please email your slides to:powerpoint@fusion-conferences.com

Flash Presentations

The Flash Session lasts up to 45minutes. This time is evenly divided between all the Flash Presentations that are accepted so your allocated time can range from 3-5 minutes, depending on popularity. The flash session is an extension of the Poster Session and is designed to offer a select few the opportunity to present orally their poster in a more formal, group setting. To be considered for a flash presentation, please submit your abstract within the 'Talk Deadline'. Abstracts submitted after the 'Talk Deadline' may not be accepted.

Please note, the exact length of your presentation will be noted on the conference programme under the ‘Flash Session’.

At the Conference

On the day of your presentation please make yourself known to the AV team who will be available in the conference room. They will ensure they have everything they need, including your presentation slides or aides. If you have any animations or videos we do advise to run through the presentation with the AV tech just to make sure everything is compatible. We also advise that all speakers make themselves known to the AV tech in the conference room immediately before your session beings. The AV tech will apply your microphone and provide a laser pointer should you have a complimenting presentation. Please note, speakers are not permitted to use their individual laptops, our AV tech will have a master laptop for you to run your presentation from. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to approach our AV tech or a member of the Fusion team. We are here to help!

We would like to ask all speakers to adhere to their time slots and respect their fellow presenters. A visual traffic light aide will be available to warn presenters as their time slot decreases.
