Synopsis

Please note, we have now exceeded our room block for this conference, and all further accommodation is subject to hotel availability. For this reason, new registrations from 14 March 2024 will be confirmed within 48 business hours. Please await confirmation of your registration before booking airfare and/or ground transportation.

Genome sequencing has revealed an enormous untapped biosynthetic capacity for natural products, only a small fraction of which have been characterized. Synthetic biology tools are being applied to translate this encoded diversity of biosynthetic pathways into their respective compounds; many of which are novel. The Synthetic Biology of Natural Products conference will integrate these disciplines with the goal of generating new platforms, tools, and technologies to capture, manipulate and engineer natural product genes and pathways. Converting this vast untapped genomic diversity into novel chemical leads for biomedical and agricultural applications will require breakthroughs in design, scale and biologics that currently limit the field.

Key Sessions:

  • (Meta)Genomics-Enabled Natural Product Discovery
  • Synthetic Biology to Access and Optimize Natural Products
  • Novel Chemistry and Enzymology of Natural Products and their Analogues
  • Scaling up Natural Products Development
  • Bringing Natural Products to the Market

Location

Cancun is a delightful combination of natural beauty, islands, ecological reserves and white sandy beaches. However, besides sun, sand and sea, this destination also offers an infinite variety of underwater activities to choose from: the diving, snorkelling and fishing here are outstanding and you will find an undersea world packed with tropical fish that live on the second largest barrier reef in the world. Sports enthusiasts might choose one of the many eco-tourism activities, such as cycling or hiking through the tropical forest or kayaking through mangroves, or something a little more adventuresome, like zip lining through the treetops.

Apart from the more well-known ancient Mayan archealogical sites such as Tulum, Cobá and Chichén Itzá you may like to visit the Aktun Chen caverns, voted one of the Top 10 underwater walks by National Geographic described as a truly magical experience.

Group Activities

We have arranged two exciting group activities for participants and accompanying guests. One takes place pre-conference on the morning of Friday 10 May 2024 and the other takes place during free time on Sunday 12 May 2024.

Unfortunately, places are limited for all activities, and you will not be able to sign up for these activities onsite. Please find details, timings and the prices for the activities below. The activities are scheduled pre-conference or during the afternoon free time and do not overlap with sessions. Please also note that all activities are pending adequate signup numbers. RIO SECRETO TOUR

This activity will take place the morning of the first day of the meeting (Friday 10 May 2024) and you will likely need to book (or already have booked) an extra night to participate in this activity as it departs early.

An incredible underground river tour where you will hike and swim through a route of about 1 km full of beautiful stalactites and stalagmites. Go deep inside an underground cave, where you'll experience true silence among some of the most dramatic mineral formations in the world. The ancient Mayans thought of this underwater system as a portal to the underworld — and you'll soon find out why. You'll walk and swim on a guided journey to explore an 1,800-foot path through these silent and beautiful caverns. With no artificial lighting available, your handy headlamp will lead the way - the only sounds you’ll hear are those of waterdrops as they fall into the river from the stalactites.

Price
The total price of this trip will be approx. $135. This will be paid in advance, directly to the tour company once final numbers are confirmed.

Includes
•    Round transportation
•    Entrance to the Río Secreto nature reserve
