The fourth interventions in Aging Conference was held in Dubrovnik, after a 4-year gap due to the pandemic. The meeting covered an exciting selection of topics, including systems biology, genome maintenance and senescence, mitochondrial quality control, autophagy and proteostasis, regenerative medicine and reprogramming, and human aging. Research into aging is expanding rapidly, and there was a real sense of excitement at the new discoveries, the prospects for translating them into improved health during ageing, and the arrival of new research groups and institutes and growing interest from the private sector. The standard of the talks was excellent, and the trainees participated well in the discussions. The format of the Fusion meetings, with the opportunity to bring together scientists from diverse disciplines, the smallish number of delegates and the generous allocation of time for discussion, leads to unusually productive interactions. The poster session was well attended and lively, and an excellent chance for the trainees to discuss their own work. The new venue in Dubrovnik is delightful, and the Fusion team kept the proceedings impeccably organised.

A plethora of genetic, dietary and pharmacological interventions can extend healthy lifespan in laboratory animals, and can delay or ameliorate diverse aging-related diseases. Mechanisms of aging are conserved in evolution, and discoveries made in animals are informing our understanding of human aging. This raises the intriguing possibility of performing preventative medicine against chronic and age-related diseases, by targeting their main risk factor, namely aging. Important current challenges in the field are (1) to understand the downstream pathways by which longevity interventions can combat age-related loss of function and pathology, (2) to evaluate the impact of regenerative interventions and cellular reprogramming on age-related diseases, and (3) to translate the findings into the extension of human health span.
This fourth meeting will continue to explore these topics, with particular emphasis on what we can learn from variation in the rate of ageing in the natural world, mitochondria, cellular senescence, biomarkers and epidemiology, immune aging and reprogramming and rejuvenation strategies.
Take advantage of this fantastic opportunity for students! Fully paying 'single' or 'shared' registrants can bring a student for only €882. Unfortunately, Postdocs are not eligible. Both registration packages include; accommodation for the 11, 12, 13 October 2023 (on a shared basis for students) and a food and beverage package for the conference period. Once registered, please contact Emily Meen to obtain a special registration link for your student.

The hotel is approximately 40 minutes from Dubrovnik Airport, the second largest international airport in Croatia. Europeans will find this fairly easy to get to and from New York also offer a direct flight option for anyone travelling from the US. The most common flights into Dubrovnik are from Zagreb and Frankfurt so these are popular choices for interconnecting flights.
The Sun Gardens Hotel is located approximately 40 minutes from the Dubrovnik International Airport.
Taxis are available outside the airport, but we would strongly recommend you pre-book your airport transfer with one of the many private transfer companies that are available.
Should you wish to pre-book a taxi transfer from the airport, please find below details of a transportation provider who is aware of our groups. They have provided us with a special price offer, to and from the airport.
